KroniKare: FAQ

KroniKare’s products have been developed after extensive clinical validation, user testing and materials testing. Below are a list of frequently asked questions about our Wound Scanner.

KRONIKARE WOUND CARE SCANNER FUNCTIONALITY
What is KroniKare Wound Scanner?

The Wound Scanner provides an accurate, automated assessment of chronic wounds with and management suggestions using a clinically validated methodUsing AI, the images from multi-spectral sensors and an ordinary smartphone are interpreted on a web-based dashboard for analysis and report viewing.

What are KroniKare Wound Scanner functionalities?

KroniKare Wound Scanner performs automatic 3D wound measurement, 7 tissues type analysis and is able to detect complication s including ischemia, undermining and infection.

What are the benefits of using KroniKare Wound Scanner?
  1. Time saving: Chronic wounds can now be assessed in 30 seconds (as compared to 30 minutes) with the same degree of accuracy as a specialist wound nurse. This empowers nurses to focus on treating the wound, and also releases cash-able savings to the health provider in time saved.
  2. Accuracy: The system is clinically validatedand highly scalable. This means that the results are reproducible, not practitioner-dependant and provide medico-legally compliant records.
  3. Upskilling junior nurses: The system acts as an AI-based training companion to upskill junior nurses through technology. This means the benefits can be extended beyond data capture.
  4. Longitudinal monitoring with alerts: The system draws on a large data pool to detect early signs of complications. This can help prevent deterioration, monitor healing times and improve recovery times (Beyond Quality to Value).
  5. Screening tool and individual-monitoring serviceKeeps track of and helps to prevent complications among at-risk populations (Beyond Healthcare to Health).
In what healthcare setting can KroniKare Wound Scanner be used effectively?

Hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, general clinics and home nursing.

Does KroniKare measure flat wound and curved wound?

Yes. Using the 3D image, the system estimates the surface of the body that surrounds the wound. Based on that, the wound measurements are performed (size, area, depth, and volume).

Can KroniKare Wound Scanner measure circumferential wounds?

Yes, KroniKare Wound Scanner can measure both circumference and point to point measure of wound.

Does KroniKare Wound Scanner detect wound boundary automatically?

Yes, KroniKare Wound Scanner can detect wound boundary automatically if the wound can be capture in a single photograph.

Does the user need to interpret the multispectral images?

No, KroniKare Wound Scanner will automatically populate the data for tissue composition, dimension and complication using visible and thermal images.

Can KroniKare Wound Scanner detect wound tissues? How about other tissues such as tendons, bones, or foreign objects?

Yes KroniKare Wound Scanner is able to detect all types of medically-assessed tissues.

Currently KroniKare Wound Scanner is not able to detect tendon, bones and foreign tissues but as our data set grows, the AI engine will be clinically validated to do this in the future.

Can KroniKare Wound Scanner detect type of peri-wound?

Currently, manual inputs are required for peri-wounds. With more data available, AI can be trained for automatic detection.

Can KroniKare Wound Scanner detect the type of exudate on the dressing?

Currently, manual inputs are required for type of wound exudate. With more data available, AI can be trained for automatic detection.

Can KroniKare Wound Scanner suggest treatment for the assessed wounds?

Currently, manual selection of treatments is required. Automatic suggestion is a work in progress.

DATA SECURITY
How do you ensure that patient’s data is not stored in KroniKare Wound Scanner and KroniKare Dashboard?

Data storage and clinical governance is very important to the work we do. We therefore ensure that data meets all standards for encryption, storage and retrieval in every country that we operate. We have a dedicated post-marketing surveillance team for data protection and stewardship. We use Amazon Web Server (AWS) in conjunction with national standards. For example, this means HIPAA complicance in the USA and HCSN (N3) in the UK.

How does KroniKare Wound Scanner separate patient data without using patient identity information?

KroniKare Wound Scanner is using QR code tagging which does not require any information that can identify the patient. We do not monetise the data to pharmaceutical companies.

Does KroniKare Wound Scanner collect and store patient identity information?

KroniKare Wound Scanner does not collect nor store information that can be used to identify patient.

Does KroniKare support multi-users?

KroniKare Wound Scanner is able to support multiple users on a single device.

Audit Trail

KroniKare is following the standard of ISO 13485-2016 including all post-marketing surveillance.

What is KroniKare's device classification?

KroniKare Wound Scanner is registered as a Class B Medical Device in Singapore and its equivalents in FDA and CE terms.

KRONIKARE DASHBOARD
Is there any function on wound monitoring (reviews, charting and alerts)?

The dashboard creates automatic reports for each capture by the device. In addition to other functionalities, these reports have several monitoring functionalities:

Wound complication alert: alerts are generated for any complication detected by the nurse or AI to help the wound care specialist prioritize.

Area time-line Chart: History of wound area is presented at each report in chart form

Pictorial time-time: The pictorial time-line of wound images, and any other images captured (including the exudate, treatment, etc.) can be viewed to help visualize the progress of the wound in pictorial form, other than the numerical format.

Report history: History of automatically generated wound reports based on date and time of the capture. The system allows multiple report captures in a day, with the time-stamp recorded. The wound nurse can choose to see all the dates, specific dates, or the dates/wounds when a complication is detected.

Can KroniKare Wound Scanner tolerate differences in lighting or different environmental variables such as room temperature?

Yes, KroniKare Wound Scanner is able to tolerate differences in lighting and different environments. There does however need to be enough light to take the image.

What's the accuracy of data in identifying wound with cancerous cell?

More data is required for accurate identification of wounds with cancerous cells.

Wound composition assessment to include identification of bones, muscles, ligament, artery, veins as cancer wound might be bigger and deeper than normal wound-also apply to podiatrist department

More data is required for the identification of bones, muscles, ligament, artery and veins.

How deep can closed wounds be detected?

Currently KroniKare Wound Scanner is able to detect closed wound with depth of up to 50mm.

AI assessment of exudate amount and type

Currently user manual inputs are required for type and amount of wound exudateWith more data available, AI can be trained for automatic detection.

Can we measure how deep is the eschar for debridement purpose??

This is possible but requires more data to be clinically validated.

Waterproof handheld

Depending on the context, this is possible.

Detection of hairline fracture

It is possible and currently a work in progress.

Is it possible to detect odour?

Currently, the system is not able to detect odour due to the lack of an olfactory sensor.

How does the system detect the difference between infection and inflammation?

The AI engine has been trained on more than 1 million images to differentiate infection froinflammation.

Degree of ischemia measurement from thermal image

The system is able to detect localised ischaemia to help make clinical management decisions (e.g. for compression). We are working on a method to quantify this better (more accurately than ABPI/TBPI).

INTEGRATION WITH EMR
Integrations

Integration with EMR systems are done through Integrated Health Information System (IHIS). Our open APIs make this possible.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
Biofilm detection and load

Possible, work in progress. See above.

Prediction of the effectiveness of wound product on a particular wound

Possible, work in progress. See above.

Depth of tissue present in the wound for debridement

Possible, more data required.

Is there any communication platform (chat, teleconsultation)?

Review notes, feedback, instructions: We are adding a communication for notes, photos, and instructions between wound care specialists and nurses to help facilitate the communication and assurance of delivery of the notes to the person in charge of the patient, and review the progress of the task assigned by the supervisor.
